Dressing table prettiness

I'll firstly apologise, I have had a crazy last few days so have been unable to blog. I went to the Soundwave Festival on Sunday but was looking after my younger cousins (we took them to the festival) so haven't had a free moment to do a bit of blogging, will hopefully catch up with the posts i've planned this week.

One of the things I was busy doing was sorting out our 3rd bedroom. We moved into this house in October and basically it was used as a room for where I put the clothes I hadn't been bothered to sort and everything else. Plus it housed my dressing table which I also hadn't unpacked everything for.

So Friday night I got home from work and decided to get in there and get it done. I did and I'm pleased! I managed to unpack everything for my dressing table, and it is so nice to now have all of my makeup items available without having to search through boxes and bags!

It's so pleasant getting ready in the morning and sitting down at my dresser doing my hair & makeup :)

Here are a few pictures of the finished job (just the dresser) My mum thinks i'm a little crazy because I colour co-ordinate things like my nail polish and headbands.....does anyone else do this?

Nail Polish collection...small but growing rapidly!

Perfumes! I've got a review coming up of the wiggle perfumes I got from etsy (still trialling though)

This NOTD is actually 2 nail polish changes ago but I took pictures and thought i'd better put it up here.

This colour is called Reef and it's from the Sportsgirl Nail It! Nail Polish range. The colour is a blue but not a regular blue it's a little muted and more a mid-blue.

I got this for $3 on sale, so if you like it check your local Sportsgirl's sale section!

www.freez.com.au shopping

I haven't shopped in awhile...clothes wise anyway! I get paid monthly so my splurges often come mid month (when my pay does...funny that?)

I saw this top on the newsletter I receive from http://www.freez.com.au/ weekly and it was very me... skulls...long...good price ($29), pretty much sells me really :) I figured I could wear it to Soundwave on Sunday since I don't really know what i've got in my current wardrobe I want to wear.

Then I also saw another top i'd been eyeing for awhile was on sale, so I also got this one it was originally $55 down to $29 -

I thought this would be a good one for when I visit Melbourne in March because it's a little transeasonal and we all know what Melbourne weather is like!

Let's add to the damage a little more shall we? I was reading through all my daily blogs on google reader and found a little gem on Sequin Of Events blog, the most adorable little bow crystal necklace. So off I went to etsy and hit the buy now button :)

I'm not going to put a picture here because I want you to go to her blog and check it out yourself.

So thats all the damage I did today! I want to do another transdesign order sometime soon but I might wait a few weeks, i'm trying to be good!!

Lush Soap Review

I got home today from a rather average day at work.... below average actually and saw the latest Lush Times hanging out of my letterbox. Score!

So it reminded me that I've been meaning to do a post about some Lush soaps i've tried out and a little bit of info and my thoughts on them.

If you aren't aware of Lush, check out their website in Australia go to www.lush.com.au, international try www.lush.com. Basically they sell handmade bath, body, hair and skincare items they use natural ingredients and a lot of their products are fresh (You'll often get a sticker saying who made the product and a little cartoon pic of them... which is kind of cute)

They are very well known for their soaps, now while they can be expensive their are a lot of goodies in the soaps and they are really something different to try.

Here are a couple i've tried out (planning on trying a lot more!)

I'll start with a couple of Christmas items I tried. These probably aren't available now but they do get released each Christmas.

Snowcake
I went a tad crazy with the buy 1 get one free after Christmas. This soap came in one of the gift packs I bought. The scent is a little almond like which usually i'm a fan of but this smelt a little "soapy" to me as well which I know sounds weird but i'm not really a fan of. Usually the bit of soap I cut off for the shower is gone in a few days, this is still sitting there because I'm not excited to use it. Anyone who wants it, i'll happily send it over? email me, tweet me or comment here.

Snow Fairy Shower Gel

I love this scent so much! It smells sweet like lollies, I can't really put my finger on it but it reminds me of some sort of lolly from my childhood.... It is amazing!

There are tiny flecks of glitter in this shower gel too but they don't come off on the skin :(

I'm sad this is only a Christmas item because I'd love to have a constant supply of this stuff (actually seen a few candle dupes so might try and buy the fragrance oil and get mum to make me candles in it) TRY IT!! seriously...!

Now a few soaps that are in the permanent Lush range -

Porridge
This is described on the website as a helping of porridge oats with a dash of molasses.

I love this soap, the oats in it seem to exfoliate my skin quite well and it smells delicious! I'm a big fan of food scents and this smells cake like to me.

Only downfall is when your chunk gets smaller in the shower sometimes the oats/soap ratio is a little out.

This is also one of the cheaper soaps in the Lush range, so definitely a good product to start with. Also a good choice for
                                                      men.

Rock Star

This is the first Lush soap I ever tried and it was the only one I ever bought until recently. It was always a go-to gift for me to (from people to me) I have a reputation for being a big fan of this! It was my favourite

It's another sweet smelling soap with quite a vanilla accent to it. Everyone I have made smell this soap has instantly fallen in love with it. I also love the cute stars scattered throughout.

Honey I Washed The Kids

Okay so I mentioned Rock Star was my favourite... Sorry Rock Star but the throne has been taken over in full force by Honey I Washed The Kids.

This is the most amazing smelling soap I have ever had the chance to try! It's a honey & toffee fragrance so once again sweet. See a pattern forming?

The thing I like best about this soap is that the fragrance actually lasts on my skin. When I use it i'll still smell it on me at work the
next day (I shower at night). I also find it super moisturising.

So one thing I want to mention about all Lush soaps is that you really need to be careful when using them in the shower. I generally cut off about a matchbox size and only take that in the shower with me so there is no wastage on the rest of the cake.

So do you have a favourite Lush soap I need to try?

Next on my list is The Godmother (I've heard it smells like Snow Fairy...), Spice Curls and Flying Fox Shower Gel so stay tuned for my reviews when I get those next time I decide to step into Lush and spend my salary :)

Courtney Love Dress

Have a look at this video!

As crazy as people might think she is Courtney Love has always been someone i've really liked. Hole is in my Top 10 bands of all time and were what inspired me to go and learn guitar when I was in high school.

I love the Dr Martens, I am actually considering buying a pair and really regret getting rid of the pair I had in high school (I was right into the grunge look)

Valentines Day

Today is Valentines Day, the boy and I aren't really big on celebrating it but we do usually plan something to do.

So today we went and saw Adam Hills stand up comedy show. If you don't know who Adam Hills is, he is a comedian from Australia who hosts the popular music quiz show Spicks and Specks. A few years ago S and I saw him perform stand up and i've never seen S laugh so much in my life, he was literally keeling over from laughter!

So when I saw he was doing a stand up show on Valentines Day it was no question what we'd be doing. Show was amazing and so funny. I highly suggest if he does the show in your area to go and see him.

This is us on our way to the Comedy Store today...turned out blurry but this was taken on my phone - we're such dorks :)

I also got given 2 Cherry Ripes (my favourite chocolate)... This makes me happier then getting flowers!

I thought i'd do a little Face of the Day (FOTD) since I finally perfected my eyeliner wing! I can't guarantee i'll ever get it again and it took me quite a few attempts, but I'm proud because i've wanted to get it right for so long!!!

NOTD -Valentines Day

I hope everyone has had a lovely Valentines Day, this post is just to show the nails I did this morning for Valentines Day.

Please excuse the shocking application, I did them this morning before we went out and was a little rushed.

P.S. I FOUND MY CAMERA CHARGER! yay! Can now do proper photos!

The colour I used is China Glaze - Ruby Pumps

Nice and sparkly which i'm very into at the moment :) The sparkle isn't showing up really correctly (need to work on my nail polish photo taking skills)

Runway Girl – Discount Code

Hi Guys,

Was just reading through my morning items in Google Reader and stumbled upon this little beauty!

40% off the following lines Gypsy 05, Wild Fox & Samantha Wills at http://www.runwaygirl.com.au/

Code to use is - lovepotion

There are some really cute Samantha Wills pieces so hurry because this offer ends 13/02/2010 (Saturday)

If I wasn't on a budget until I get paid (thumbs down to getting paid monthly!) I would be buying these items from the Samantha Wills range

I might try and do more of these sorts of discount posts when I get news of them, I know it's something I'm always interested in knowing so hopefully you are too.

Also... does anyone know how I can position my images so they go next to each other across the page? I've tried everything (well almost everything) and nothing seems to work. I don't know if its the layout or my brain.

NOTD – China Glaze For Audrey

Like most girls I adore Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast At Tiffanys is definately a must watch movie. I'm also a fan of the Tiffany signature blue colour, though I don't own any Tiffany jewellery myself I can admire from afar and thought this nail colour was a little fun and something to talk about.

As for application, I found it evened out with 2 coats, I do however have a bit of a gloopy bump on my thumb but hey were not all perfect right. This colour is unlike anything I have in my small nail polish collection (which is growing...at quite a rapid rate in fact) but I thought it was a cute kickback from all the mints we've been seeing lately (I am a fan, don't get me wrong). Hope you like it. Ignore how ugly my hands look too! I just had a coffee in my hand so it's all red from the heat.

Once again, photo from my phone so not the best quality. I will go looking for my camera charger tonight and promise much much better quality photos.

Holy Shoes!!

I'm a fan of Sportsgirl, thats nothing new. I have been since they sported their colourful logo on white tee's and bags and it was the shirt every girl wanted to be seen in when I was at school (this was before the comeback last year!)

When I go shopping I have a routine and Sportsgirl is always included, so I like to check out what's coming in the upcoming season. So far for winter..... I LIKEY! VERY MUCHY!!

Rather then construct a huge post on everything I want from the winter collection because lets face it we'd be here for awhile. I had to show you these amazing shoes! They need to be in my closet, like yesterday!

They are simply perfection... black (handy for winter), studded (instant love for me), chunky heel and ankle length! I can see them with skinny jeans, skirts with tights (patterned would be amazing), dresses, my Peter Alexander pyjamas... get the point?

Observe but please don't buy and sell out my size before I get a chance to snap these babies up!

Happy 90210 Day

I just received this in my email today and thought it was too cute not to post!

Today is 9/02/10

HAPPY 90210 DAY!

This was my favourite show when it was around, I own all the box sets on dvd and I was a Branden girl :)

Daybreakers… another vampire movie

Did anyone else manage to stock up when Event Cinemas had the $7.50 movie tickets? I did! I love the movies and it's a good chance to see ones you wouldn't really pay full price to go and see. Case in point Daybreakers.

My mum called me at work and told me about this new vampire movie that was out and I checked out the preview online (with no sound because I was at work) and it looked okay so we decided to go.

The movie is basically about the world in the future where vampires have taken over and only 5% of humans remain. The vampires that remain are turning mutant because of their human blood supply lowering and the big vampire corporation have not yet found a suitable subsitute for blood, so they look for a solution.

I guess the whole premise is different to other vampire movies/shows that are around at the moment but I had to laugh when the main vampire character played by Ethan Hawke was named Edward (come on Hollywood you know everyone is always going to associate vampires with THAT Edward now)

I think parts of this film were filmed here in Australia as it had a pretty broad Australian cast (hello Secret Life of Us reunion!! Rex and Alex were together again!!!)

The movie was okay, entertaining enough for a Sunday afternoon and some of the scenes were a bit ewww gory. If you don't have cheap tickets though i'd wait for the dvd release

I give it a 2/5

Sorry everyone

Hi guys,

Thought I'd write a quick blog post via my phone to update that my Internet is down due to the storm in Sydney on Friday.

Imagine that a weekend with no Internet (and foxtel) It's driving me nuts!!! I also have about 5 shows I obtain to watch on a Friday as well.

I had planned a couple of posts so once everything is back to normal I'll get them up.

Hopefully it all gets sorted tomorrow when the tech comes out.

xx

My Chemical Romance Out…. Jimmy Eat World In…

It's just over 2 weeks until the Soundwave Fesitval hits Australia and the news has come in that one of the headlining acts My Chemical Romance have had to pull out due to singer, Gerard Way having some medical issues which are affecting his vocals.

I was hoping to see them, but I have seen them 3 times previously.... so the good news is...

They are being replaced by Jimmy Eat World!! I am super excited about this! I think i've mentioned it on twitter a couple of times already this morning :) Just before the Soundwave lineup gets announced the boy and I discuss who our lineup wants are... mine always has Jimmy Eat World on it!

I saw them at the Big Day Out in 2003 so I can't wait to see them again!

NOTD

Sportsgirls in house nail polish brand Nail It! has fast become a favourite of mine. The colour range is pretty awesome with their colours reflecting trends of the season and they come in at a reasonable price point of $7.95(AUD).

I find their colours to be long lasting on my nails and a great colour payoff. I also love that most things at Sportsgirl tend to go on sale so you can often get the colours for $4.95 or $2.95 (this is when I stock up!).

My colour today is from that range and it's called Lavender. I apologise for the crappy pictures this one I took in my office on my phone and flourescent lighting is not my friend!

Check out the polishes online at http://www.sportsgirl.com.au/ (unfortunately they don't ship internationally :( )

Festival Tips!

One of my favourite things about summer in Australia is the music festivals. It seems there is one on every weekend from the beginning of January until the end of February and generally no matter where your music tastes lie there is generally at least one that will cater to that genre.

This year i'm attending 2 the first will be Good Vibrations on the 13th of Feb with acts such as The Killers, Gossip, Salt n Pepa, Basement Jaxx etc. This is my first time going to a Good Vibrations festival so I really don't know what to expect. I am hoping it's well run and not full of douchebags, time will tell :)

The other festival i'm attending this year is the Soundwave Festival. This is more a punk/metal festival I guess? I've attended the last 3 years and once again it has an amazing line up. Faith No More are headlining which is huge! I have wanted to see them for years! I can't wait for this one, my timetable already looks to be pretty full on but it'll be a good day.

So i've been attending festivals since I went to my first Big Day Out in 1996 when I was 15 so i've learnt a lot of things that are helpful for the day and here I thought i'd write a couple of handy tips for the day plus a little bit on fashion and what is good to wear.

- My first tip is to organise your day as much as possible before you go. Download a timetable and print it off or get one from one of the free street press newspapers that have them (in Sydney it's usually Drum Media) Check the news pages/forums for the festival the night before to see any last minute changes or cancellations etc. This will help you have a good day being organised and your less likely to miss your favourite acts. Also try and get a copy of the map as well and work out where your stages are you need to go to.

- Get there at a reasonable time if your band is on early. Lines to get in can take ages, I stood in one for 4 hours once and missed most of the bands I wanted to see that day. Take a bottle of water for the line, if your stuck in line with a mass of people and it's a hot day your going to need to rehydrate. You can hand in the bottle when you get to the security at the beginning of the line.

- The sun is not your friend so pack some sunscreen and apply apply apply. Drink alcohol in moderation and drink water like it's going out of fashion!

- Wear comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting a little scuffed and dirty. I have actually seen girls in stilletos at festivals...I know I shouldn't but I gawked!

- Get a good nights rest the night before, it's a long day often over 12hrs of non stop walking/standing/dancing. You need rest!

- Don't wear your best clothes, they will get dirty and possibly ruined. If your getting something new just go for a cheap option (I always get cheapy tops to wear).

There are so many other tips so if you have any comment below :) Most importantly have an amazing time! See bands you love, sing out loud and dance like no one is watching :)

I am currently trying to decide what i'm wearing to the festivals i'm attending so far it's denim shorts and my converse and some sort of long top (I like long for comfort and modesty). I haven't found a top yet but I know what I want. I have included a polyvore image showing festival style I think is comfortable and appropriate. This is my opinion however and may not work for you.
