New Things!

I'm a nosy parker and love these sorts of posts! Here is some new stuff i've recently bought or in the case of one item been given :)

So what are all these new shiny things!

Pastel Pink Skinny Jeans - Kmart RRP $15.00 - That is not a typo, and that isn't even on sale...that's the full price! There are also a light blue pair and a mint pair... I WANT THEM ALL! The colour is actually called Fairyfloss....DYING OF CUTENESS! They also have these cute little cuffs on the hem and are the perfect length for me (being a shorty).

Ulta3 Magnetic Nail Polish in Spellbound - RRP $5.00 - Finally found these in my local Soul Patterson chemist, they were hiding behind the counters. I just got one to try out and will certainly do a blog post on this. They only had 3 colours (not entirely sure how many are in the range?) and you can also buy additional magnets for $3.00 each for different effects.

Face of Australia Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons - RRP $14.95 - This is FOA's version of the Clinique Chubby Stick, while I don't own any of those I thought these were too cheap to pass up. Bloody hard to find but eventually went all the way to Canberra and picked them up (I didn't go to Canberra specifically for the lipsticks!) Review coming shortly, I've done swatches and everything...good blogger I am!

Foxy Bag - Ebay - $10.99 (including postage) - I get so many comments on this little bag, and I get why it's adorable! I originally heard about these from one of my favourite YouTuber's Sprinkle of Glitter and when I saw how cheap they were, it was no question I needed one! This is the seller I got mine from - http://stores.ebay.com.au/abalacoco

Diva Rose Gold Watch - $29.95 - My lovely mum got me this, she knew i'd been into Diva about 5 million times looking for one and she found one on her travels, yay mum! This is an absolute copy of the Michael Kors/Marc Jacobs man style rose gold watches. I wanted one of the "real" ones for my birthday but always being a silver girl I wasn't sure i'd love rose gold on me so I got this as a try out until then... well basically I love it so I think the real version will be on my wishlist come September!

Last but not least, I got this album today. I absolutely adore Motion City Soundtrack and their last album My Dinosaur Life was my favourite album of 2010..hands down! This is their new offering called "Go". I'm on my first listen now and I generally make my decisions about what I think of an album after 3 listens, its my weird rule i've always had. However, so far so good!

If you like cheery pop rock with a tiny bit of punk influence, definitely check out Motion City Soundtrack. Their songs make me smile :)

Makeup Video! Work to Play, Trying to embrace colour!

So I was getting ready to go out on Friday night after work and decided to do this little video, I'm trying to embrace colour more in my makeup looks so heres a bit of an example of that!

Hope you like it, I'm no makeup artist but a normal girl who likes to play with makeup. Most of what I have learnt has come from YouTube.

I also know my lighting is shit, I really need to do something about that if I plan on doing more videos like this when it's night and I don't have the wonders of natural daylight...any suggestions?

See below the video for clearer shots of the makeup I did :)

Tutorial: Rainbow Melting Crayon Art

Now I don't fancy myself as much of an artist at all but I did this the other day with mum and it looks so rad that I had to share, it's super simple as well! I saw heaps of versions of these popping up over the interwebs, especially pinterest so I looked into it a little further and decided to give it a whirl.

All you need to create this little piece of art is -

  • Canvas (I used white, but I wouldn't mind painting one next time for a different effect)
  • Crayons in tons of colours (I used Crayola because I like the look of the logo showing)
  • Hairdryer
  • Glue, you need something thats going to stick those crayons down. We used a hot glue gun but super glue or super strong craft glue should work fine.
  • Newspaper - Unless you want bits of crayon everywhere
Now here are the steps, in pictures and a video :)

Now for the fun stuff!!! Get your hairdryer out (make sure it's on the heat setting) and melt your crayons, you can get really creative with how you do this! Check out the video below to see my mum do hers, when you see the finished products you'll see how different ours are because I used the hairdryer a little differently.

Here are our finished artworks! On the last one we got a little creative and did a rainbow and put one of my mums Papertole (a paper craft she does) on the canvas as well. I really want to do one in blues and greys with a girl holding an umbrella next :)

Lush Fresh Face Mask in Catasrophe Cosmetic

Super exciting news is that Lush has recently opened near me! Perhaps not so exciting for my bank account....

I had to go visit opening week (I'm a self confessed Lushie) and decided a fresh face mask was needed, my skin has been a bit of a pain in the ass lately, it's dry one week and then breaking out like nobodies business the next, I blame the weather!

My usual go-to fresh face mask from Lush is Oatifix (I have so much love for that product!), However on this trip I thought i'd like to try something different, so I told the girl at Lush about my current skin issues and that I loved Oatifix but wanted something else to try and she suggested Catasrophe Cosmetic.

Here is what Lush says about it - Avoid disasters with the power of blueberries! Fresh blueberries are rich in beneficial antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to reduce inflammation and act as a mild antiseptic. Soothing chamomile, Irish moss and almond oil work with the gentle cleansing action of calamine to save your skin. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for five to ten minutes, then rinse away with warm water. Keep chilled.

Check out all those little seeds! I decided on Friday night my skin needed a major pick me up, I've had a bit of a stressful week and that was really starting to show on my face. So I plopped on the mask and waited for it to do its magic.

I left it on for 10mins and gently removed it with warm water, I was expecting my skin to be as smooth as a babys bum like how it feels after using Oatifix, it wasn't. It felt like it did just before I put the mask on and I felt a bit cheated and ripped off... Not only that the little black seeds (blueberry seeds?) in the mask? An absolute bitch to get off your face! Okay, it wasn't all bad! The redness in my skin had really calmed and it did look a bit more radiant. I put my regular moisturiser and rose hip oil on and went to bed thinking nothing of it. When I woke up my skin actually looked pretty amazing, I didn't even really need to wear foundation that day (and I didn't because it was a gym day...P.S. I'm sore!). Yay!

Overall, I liked the mask and it felt really lovely on, but I think i'll try out a few more in the range before I go tooting the horns of this one. I still prefer Oatifix though and would highly recommend that for anyone with dry skin (especially in winter!).

One other thing to mention is these masks do have a shelf life, so remember to always check the expiry date on your tub and keep it in the fridge. It also says who made your mask! (Thanks Mitch!)

I love seeing pics of face masks on people :) Enjoy!

This product was purchased by me...I LOVE LUSH! :P
